Topfence OÜ builds fences and installs gates in Tallinn and across Harju County. We have 16 years of experience, we measure your plot free of charge, and we give you a fixed written quote before any work starts. Fence installation in Estonia typically costs 25 to 120 EUR per running metre, materials and labour included.

What does fence installation cost in Tallinn?

The price depends on the fence type, the height, the ground conditions and how straight the boundary is. The table below is our indicative 2026 price list. Every quote is confirmed on site after a free measurement.

Fence or gate type Unit Price from (EUR)
Field fence (pasture, forest boundary) per metre 12-25
Welded wire mesh fence, 1.2-2.0 m per metre 25-60
2D welded panel fence per metre 45-75
3D welded panel fence per metre 55-90
Wooden fence (picket, horizontal board) per metre 60-120
Metal bar fence per metre 120+
Pedestrian gate each 400+
Swing gate each 900+
Sliding (cantilever) gate each 1800+
Gate automation with installation each 800+

Which fence should you choose?

If you want the lowest cost per metre and only need a clear boundary, a welded wire mesh fence is the practical answer. If you want a fence that looks finished from the street and needs almost no maintenance, a 3D panel fence is the usual choice in Harju County. A wooden fence gives you privacy and warmth but needs re-treating every few years. A metal bar fence costs the most and lasts the longest.

You can see each type in detail on our Estonian service pages: wire mesh fences, 3D panel fences, wooden fences, metal fences and field fencing.

Gates and gate automation

We install sliding gates, swing gates and pedestrian gates, and we match the infill to the fence so the entrance does not look bolted on. A sliding gate needs 1.3 to 1.5 times the opening width of free space beside the opening, so a 4 m opening needs 5.5 to 6 m of clear run. A swing gate needs room to open into the yard and suits a flat driveway.

Automation is fitted by the same crew on the same day: sliding gate automation and swing gate automation. We also install barriers for car parks and company yards.

How the job runs, step by step

  1. Enquiry. You send us the address and the approximate length, or fill in our detailed quote request.
  2. Free measurement. We come to the plot, measure the line, check the slope and the soil, and agree where the gates go.
  3. Written quote. You get a fixed price with materials, posts, gates and labour itemised.
  4. Materials ordered. Usual lead time is one to three weeks depending on colour and height.
  5. Posts set. Posts are concreted below the frost line so the fence stays straight through the winter.
  6. Panels and gates fitted. Automation is wired and programmed at the same time.
  7. Handover. We walk the line with you, hand over the remotes and the warranty.

Why Topfence

16 years of fence and gate installation in Estonia. Our own installation crews, not subcontracted labour. Galvanised and powder coated materials that survive the coastal climate. A fixed written price before the work starts, and a warranty on both materials and installation. If your existing fence is damaged, we also do fence repair instead of a full rebuild.

Do you speak English?

Yes. Our team handles enquiries, site visits and quotes in English, Estonian and Russian. If you have just moved to Estonia and are not sure what is allowed on your plot, we will tell you what the local rules say before you commit to anything.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a building permit for a fence in Estonia?

A building permit is usually not required. A building notice is required when the fence work involves excavation, which is the normal case for concreted posts. We handle the paperwork side with you before we start.

How tall can my fence be?

On a street boundary 1.2 to 1.5 m is the common limit, and between neighbours 1.5 to 1.8 m, but the detail plan and the local municipality rules decide. We check this for your address during the free measurement.

Do I need my neighbour’s consent?

If the fence sits exactly on the boundary line, yes. If it sits inside your own plot, you do not, but we still recommend agreeing it in writing.

How long does installation take?

A typical family house, 40 to 80 m of fence with one gate, takes two to four working days on site once the materials have arrived.

Can you install a fence in winter?

Yes, in most winters. Frozen ground slows down the post holes, so we agree the schedule and any extra cost before we start.
